As per the prediction Mozilla has recently released the new version 9.0 of Firefox, The default browser on many Linux distributions, Ubuntu also among these.
As indicated in the previous the new Firefox 9.0 does not add anything new to be part of the interface but offers a general improvement in the Browser.
Among the changes coming in on Firefox 9.0 we find:
- imprkelewat / over performance in JavaScript
- better integration with Mac OS X Lion
- added support for two-finger swipe (finger scrolling) for easy navigation on Mac OS X Lion
- Added support for the performance of querying doNotTrack via JavaScript
- Added support for font-stretch
- Improved support for text kelewat / overflow
- Improved support for HTML5, MathML, and CSS
We can install Firefox 9.0 on Ubuntu through precompiled binaries proposed by Mozilla, or we can install Firefox 9.0 on Ubuntu 11.10 - 11.04 through the official repositories (will be updated every other day) or through the PPA Mozilla Security Team by typing:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Firefox 9.0 on Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 use the PPA Firefox Stable Channel:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox
and confirm.
