In these latest releases Canonical has focused heavily on improving the work space inprimis removing the bottom panel and bringing the application sajian in the panel this feature is also referred to as AppMenu (Or Global Menu). The AppMenu for some users is very useful especially if you use a laptop or tablet or if you use applications where the sajian is not required in the operations.
As we have seen in recent weeks we can turn this feature also Kubuntu.
Now we can use the 'AppMenu or Global Menu also on Xubuntu 11.10, With whom we have a new Widgets known precisely AppMenu Plugins which, once integrated into our panel will be added to the sajian of applications launched.
Here's how to activate 'AppMenu or globalmenu on Xubuntu 11.10 Oneiric.
For activate or AppMenu globalmenu on Xubuntu 11.10 Oneiric simply launch the terminal and type:
Download the necessary dependencies:
sudo apt-get install indicator-appmenu appmenu-gtk appmenu-qt appmenu-gtk3
if we turn AppMenu on Firefox and Thunderbird we also install:
sudo apt-get install firefox-globalmenu thunderbird-globalmenuIf we Xubuntu 11.10 32bit
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/964512/misc/xfce4-appmenu-plugin_0.10-1_i386.debIf we Xubuntu 11.10 64bit
sudo dpkg -i xfce4-appmenu-plugin_0.10-1_i386.deb
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/964512/misc/xfce4-appmenu-plugin_0.10-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture xfce4-appmenu-plugin_0.10-1_i386.deb
sudo apt-get install -f
At this point we go on the panel on which we want to add the menus and go right on Panel -> Add new elements and we choose Indicator AppMenu Plugins.
