In this article we will see how to install or update the new nvidia driver through PPA repository of Ubuntu 11.10, 11.04, 10.10 and 10.04 so as to keep up to date automatically to the latest version available through the integrated Update Manager in Ubuntu
Installation using PPA repository
We initiate the Terminal with the key combination Ctrl+Alt+T and we add to PPA repository for Ubuntu-x-swat by typing:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
At this point we update the package index by typing:
sudo apt-get update
and the process is complete, we can begin to install the new drivers real always typing in Terminal:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
but if we already have a version of nvidia driver installed you can launch instead of sudo apt-get install nvidia-current, the following command
sudo apt-get upgrade
or by running the Update Manager Ubuntu.
At this point, expect that the installation completed and restart Ubuntu to see the new nvidia driver enabled.
